Overview

Sotheby's conducts sales of important English furniture and allied decorative arts at its principal galleries in York Avenue, New York and New Bond Street, London. Sales of Important English Furniture are traditionally held in April and October in New York and June and November in London. However, further opportunities for buying furniture are available with regular sales of Fine Furniture and Decorative Arts also held at New Bond Street, London which include oak and country furniture and 19th century furniture. The Important English Furniture auctions in London and New York feature pieces dating from the late 17th through to the 19th centuries encompassing diverse styles and mediums ranging from mahogany and satinwood to giltwood and gilt-bronze. Catalogues contain up to 300 lots, with values ranging from $10,000/£5,000 to several hundred thousand dollars or pounds in the important sales.
