Indian & Southeast Asian Art

Overview

From the earliest sculpture of the Indian subcontinent dating to the first century, to twentieth century paintings by leading modern artists and cutting edge works created by internationally feted contemporary artists, Sotheby's auctions of Indian and South East Asian Art continually excite and surprise. Our auctions have set record prices for traditional sculptures and works of art, Indian miniature paintings and modern and contemporary Indian art. Fueled by the strong Indian economy, the number of collectors worldwide and a growing international attraction for these outstanding works, there has never been a more exciting time in this collecting field. The growth in this dynamic young market has been accompanied by increasing interest in more traditional Indian art forms as well as the continual growth of modern and contemporary art. This promises to take Indian art at Sotheby's to new heights. A diverse field, the art we sell at auctions stretches from India to Indonesia, including the countries of Thailand, Burma, Laos and Cambodia, as well as Tibet and Nepal in the region of the Himalayas. Auctions are held in New York twice a year in March and September and in London in June.
