Overview

In February 2010 Sotheby's Impressionist & Modern Art department in London made auction history. Giacometti's L'Homme qui marche I sold for £65 million, a world record price for a sculpture sold at auction. It was one of the highlights of the February Evening Sale which achieved £146.8 million, the highest total for any sale ever held in London.

The New York sale held in May also brought some exceptional prices, including $28.6 million for Matisse's Bouquet pour le quatorze juillet and $13.8 million for Modigliani's portrait of his muse Jeanne Hébuterne au collier. Two new artist records were set, for Isamu Noguchi and Salvador Dalí.

Our most recent sale, held in London this June, established a new auction record for Edouard Manet, whose Self-Portrait with a Palette sold for £22.4 million ($33 million).
